An important meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was held in Panaji on Monday evening to elect the new Chief Minister of Goa, in which Pramod Sawant’s name was stamped. The decision on the name of CM comes 11 days after the BJP emerged as the single largest political party by winning 20 seats in the recently held Goa Assembly elections.
BJP’s central observers Narendra Singh Tomar and L Murugan had arrived here this afternoon to oversee the process of election of the BJP Legislature Party leader. The BJP won 20 seats in the state assembly elections, just one seat short of the required number of seats.
The BJP has won the support of two MLAs of MGP and three independents. This puts the BJP in a comfortable position in terms of numbers in the new assembly.
