Dr Anita Sharma, Consultant, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department, Fortis La Femme Hospital, New Delhi, told AnyTV That pregnancy is not a disease, but it is a normal function of the body. Women who do not have any complications in their pregnancy can exercise till their third trimester. Pregnant women should do light exercise with caution. This will benefit their health and can also make delivery easier. The most important thing is that pregnant women must consult their doctor before exercising.
Dr. Anita said that pregnant women can participate in many types of sports, but they are advised not to play high level sports in the third trimester. Women who have a healthy pregnancy can participate in many games including swimming with caution. However, women who have any kind of complication should avoid sports and play games only after consulting a doctor. Exercise and games help keep women fit and this can benefit them a lot during pregnancy.
According to health experts, women should eat healthy food half an hour before exercising and increase the amount of fluid in their diet. Ventilation should be proper in places where exercise or games are played and there should not be too much heat. Pregnant women should avoid any kind of physical activity in extremely hot places. Pregnant women should be careful while walking during the rainy season and if there is a lot of mud outside, they can walk inside the house.
