New Delhi: The Congress on Friday alleged that the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Babasaheb Ambedkar and Chhatrapati Shivaji have been removed from their original places in the Parliament complex because Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not want to allow any unconstitutional protests near the two Houses. “Yesterday at 2:30 PM I had exposed how the Modi Government is shifting the statues of Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Ambedkar from their specific locations in front of the Parliament House,” Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on ‘X’.
There is no discussion with any political party
He said, “After the pictures of the statues being removed came out, the Lok Sabha Secretariat was forced to issue a completely fake and clearly fabricated clarification for this change late last night after 8 pm in a panic.” Ramesh claimed that there was no discussion with any political party for the change in the location of the statues. The Congress leader said, “The real reason for the change can now be told. In fact, for the last 10 years, opposition parties have been protesting peacefully and democratically against the Modi government in front of these statues. TDP and JDU were also involved in this.”
“The Prime Minister clearly does not want any place next to the Houses of Parliament where protests can take place against him and his government, even in a constitutional manner. Such ‘stunts’ can no longer save him and his shaky government from falling,” he alleged.
The statues were relocated
It is noteworthy that the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Babasaheb Ambedkar and Chhatrapati Shivaji have been removed from their original places and installed at other places in the Parliament premises. The statues of tribal leaders Birsa Munda and Maharana Pratap have also been installed in the lawn between the old Parliament House and the Parliament Library. Now all the statues are at the same place. The Lok Sabha Secretariat said in a statement, “The Parliament House complex comes under the jurisdiction of the Lok Sabha Speaker and statues have been shifted inside the complex in the past as well with the permission of the Honourable Lok Sabha Speaker.” The statement said, “It is clear that the statue of any great man has not been removed from the Parliament House complex, rather they are being installed inside the Parliament House complex in a systematic and respectful manner.” (Language)
