Prime Minister Narendra Modi is chairing a high-level meeting on the Ukraine-Russia crisis. Around 18,000 Indian students are trapped there amid the ongoing attacks on Ukraine. The Modi government is making every effort to bring these Indian students back home. In this regard, PM Modi is once again presiding over the high level meeting today. Several top officials including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are participating in the meeting. This is the fourth meeting of PM Modi regarding Ukraine crisis. An Indian student has died during a gunfight in Kharkiv in the war-torn country. Regarding the death of an Indian student in Ukraine, the Ministry of External Affairs tweeted that it is with deep sadness that we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The ministry is in touch with his family. We express our deepest condolences to the family. The central government has launched Operation Ganga to bring back stranded students and Indian citizens from war-torn Ukraine. Special flights are being operated by Air India under Operation Ganga Mission.
Now the Indian Air Force will also be involved in Operation Ganga
To augment the ongoing evacuation efforts under ‘Operation Ganga’, PM Modi on Tuesday asked the Indian Air Force to join the evacuation efforts. Leveraging the capabilities of the Air Force will ensure that more people can be evacuated in less time, sources said. It also said that it would also help in distributing humanitarian aid more efficiently. Indian Air Force may deploy several C-17 aircraft from today under ‘Operation Ganga’.
