Rishi Sunak, British PM.
London: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has dissolved the British Parliament. With this, the seats of 650 members of Parliament in the British Parliament have become vacant in one stroke from midnight. However, the term of the current Conservative Party government of Britain is to be completed in December. According to the rules of Britain, elections were to be held here before 28 January 2025 and after 17 December. But PM Rishi Sunak has dissolved the Parliament using his powers 6 months in advance. In such a situation, elections will now be held in Britain on 4 July.
Now, after the dissolution of the British Parliament before the general election on July 4, about 5 weeks are left for the election campaign. After the 14-year rule of the ruling Conservative Party, various surveys show the possibility of the Labour Party coming to power this time. As per the election schedule, 650 seats of Members of Parliament (MPs) became vacant one minute after midnight. With this, the five-week election campaign also officially began.
Rain was termed a bad omen for PM Rishi Sunak
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made this election announcement during the rain. In such a situation, the election campaign started slow in the first week. Therefore, many observers presented the rain as a bad omen for him. However, it was already expected from Rishi Sunak’s earlier announcement that he could dissolve the Parliament anytime before July 4. Because PM Sunak set the date of July 4 instead of holding elections at the end of the year. After this, observers said that this is an attempt to regain momentum due to his party lagging behind in opinion polls.
If the Labour Party wins in Britain, this person could become PM
If the Labour Party comes to power this time as per the surveys, then former human rights lawyer and strong opposition leader Keir Starmer can become the new Prime Minister of Britain. The Labour Party now has a chance to regain power after being in opposition for 14 years. In election surveys, the ruling Conservatives are seen lagging behind the Labour Party by double digits. Due to this, there was a large scale exodus of MPs from the ruling party i.e. they left the party. At the same time, some Conservative MPs accepted defeat in front of the bleak prospects of victory. This can be gauged from the fact that so far about 129 MPs have announced that they will not contest the elections again. Out of these, 77 MPs belong to the ruling Conservative Party.
