Priyanka Gandhi: Priyanka Gandhi's first reaction on attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, expressed hope for the situation to become normal

New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s first reaction has come regarding the attacks and atrocities on Hindus and other religious minorities in Bangladesh. On Monday, August 12, she expressed concern about the continuous attacks on minorities in Bangladesh through a post on the social media platform X.

Priyanka Gandhi wrote, “The reports of attacks on minorities in Bangladesh are very disturbing. Discrimination, violence and attacks on the basis of religion, caste, language or identity are unacceptable in any civilized society.” She also said, “We hope that the situation in Bangladesh will soon return to normal and the newly elected government there will ensure safety and respect for people following Hinduism, Christianity and Buddhism.”

The reports of continued attacks on minorities in neighbouring Bangladesh are disturbing. Discrimination, violence and attacks on the basis of religion, caste, language or identity are unacceptable in any civilised society.

Hindus in Bangladesh have recently been involved in violent protests over demands for the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and reservation issues in the South Asian country. On Sunday, Hindus took to the streets in large numbers in Chittagong, demanding protection of their lives, property and places of worship. They said, “Bangladesh is our motherland and we will not go anywhere.”
