New Delhi. Due to the change of power in Bihar, the fate of a journalist turned politician has also been at stake. His name is Harivansh Narayan Singh. Harivansh was earlier the editor of Hindi newspaper ‘Prabhat Khabar’. After this he became close to Nitish Kumar and then after being elected to the Rajya Sabha on behalf of JDU, he was made the Deputy Speaker of the House. Now JDU or say Nitish Kumar has been separated from BJP. In such a situation, all eyes are on Harivansh whether he leaves his post or not. Harivansh was re-elected as the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha in the year 2020 as an NDA candidate. He is the third non-Congress Deputy Speaker of the House.
Harivansh is currently in his post. There has also been no official statement from JDU regarding him. As a journalist, Harivansh always raised the issues related to Bihar in his newspaper. With this, he climbed in the eyes of Nitish Kumar and then became close to him. After leaving the post of editor of the newspaper, Harivansh was made General Secretary by Nitish by getting the membership of JDU and then sent to Rajya Sabha in the year 2014. During that time there was no problem between BJP and Nitish and Harivansh was easily elected as Deputy Chairman both times. Now everyone’s eyes are on whether he supports Nitish, or chooses a different path and remains in office.
A similar problem had come to the notice of the then Lok Sabha Speaker and Left leader Somnath Chatterjee during UPA-1. During UPA-1, India signed a nuclear deal with the US. On this the Left parties withdrew support to the Congress-led government. At that time Somnath Chatterjee was asked by his party CPM to resign from the post of Lok Sabha speaker. Somnath Chatterjee said on this that the speaker does not belong to any party. After this he was expelled from the CPM. On completion of his term, Somnath had retired from politics. In such a situation, there are many speculations that will Harivansh also finally follow the path of Somnath Chatterjee?
