Bangladesh Protest
Dhaka: An interim government has been formed in Bangladesh. Protests are continuing even after the formation of the interim government. Now the protesters are demanding the resignation of all the judges of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, including the Chief Justice. The protesters have surrounded the Supreme Court and are adamant on their demand. According to a report in the ‘Dhaka Tribune’ newspaper, the protesters, mostly students, have surrounded the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and are demanding the immediate resignation of the Chief Justice.
Sheikh Hasina had to leave the country
Sheikh Hasina had to resign from the post of Prime Minister and even leave the country amid widespread demonstrations in Bangladesh against the reservation system in jobs. After Sheikh Hasina, Nobel Prize-winning economist Muhammad Yunus has been chosen as the head of the interim government of Bangladesh. The newly formed interim government of Bangladesh has emphasized the need to maintain ‘balance’ in Dhaka’s relations with ‘big countries’.
Sheikh Hasina is in India
Sheikh Hasina is currently in India, which is witnessing all kinds of reactions. Bangladesh Nationalist Party, a staunch rival of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party, has said that the former prime minister’s decision to stay in India is entirely hers and that of the Indian authorities. Senior BNP leader and party spokesperson Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, “Right now, she (Hasina) is wanted in Bangladesh for several crimes ranging from murders and forced disappearances to large-scale corruption.” Chowdhury said that it is the decision of “Hasina herself and the Indian government whether she should stay in the neighboring country or not.”
Student leaders got ministry
Meanwhile, it should also be mentioned here that student leader Nahid Islam, one of the main coordinators of anti-reservation protests in Bangladesh, has been given charge of the Ministry of Information Technology and Post in the newly formed interim government of the country. Another prominent leader of the student movement, Asif Mahmud, has been given charge of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
