Puducherry. The interim budget for the Union Territory of Puducherry was presented by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who is also the Finance Minister. Puducherry Assembly Speaker R. Selvam announced this on Wednesday. He said this is the second session of the Assembly as the first session, which was called on February 23, was adjourned after business.
However, Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Dr. Tamilisai Sundararajan will not be present during the interim budget session.
The Speaker said that the vote on accounts would be presented on March 30 by the Chief Minister, who holds the Finance Department, to meet the government’s committed expenditure for the first few months of the next financial year (2022-23).
Apart from this, the supplementary demands for grants for the financial year 2021-22 will also be tabled and debated in the House before being passed in the session.
The Speaker also said that the Lieutenant Governor would address the plenary budget session to be held in June after getting approval from the Central Government.
He said the chief minister has already written to the central government for an additional grant of Rs 2,000 crore and is taking action on the matter.
The Speaker also said that an all-party delegation led by him and comprising MLAs would be visiting Goa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Uttarakhand in April and would visit them before the start of work for the new legislative complex in the Union Territory. Legislative campus buildings in the states will be studied.
The Union Territory government has already requested an amount of Rs 300 crore for the new assembly complex in Puducherry.
