One crore 11 lakh children will be given polio dose in three days.
Bhopal (New World Representative). The new phase of administering polio drops to children in the age group of 0 to 5 years started from Sunday across the state. One crore 11 lakh children will be given food in this three-day long campaign. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the campaign by giving polio medicine to 11 children from his residence. State Health Minister Dr. Prabhuram Choudhary was also present with him on this occasion. Health Minister Chaudhary administered polio dose to 10 children at Jaypee Hospital.
Director NHM (Vaccination) Dr. Santosh Shukla informed that no case of polio has been reported in the state after the year 2008. Yet the polio virus is still active in some neighboring countries. This virus can re-enter our country anytime, hence the National Pulse Polio Campaign is being organized. He told that polio is an incurable disease and is the biggest cause of disability in children. As polio disease still exists in the surrounding countries, polio doses are being administered for double protection of children.
On the first day of the campaign (polio Sunday), 83 thousand 261 booths, 4,252 transit booths, 12 thousand 996 high risk areas and migratory booths have been made. Of these, 1 lakh 67 thousand 635 vaccinators will be given polio doses. The booths are being monitored by 12 thousand 37 supervisors in the campaign. On the second and third day of the campaign, 82 thousand 35 teams will visit the houses and give polio dose to the children, so that not a single child is deprived of the polio dose. Pulse polio teams will be functional daily from 8 am to 5 pm.
Keeping in view the festival of Mahashivratri, transit booths have been set up at the fair sites of the pagodas to administer polio medicines. Also, keeping in mind that not a single child should be deprived of medicine, in addition to regular vaccination sites, government health institutions, Anganwadi centers, airports, railway stations, bus stations, high risk areas like brick kilns, crushers, construction sites, nomadic population and Mobile teams have also been arranged in slums.
