After leading Team India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title, Rahul Dravid has been relieved of the responsibility of head coach. In place of Dravid, Gautam Gambhir is handling the role of the new coach of Team India. In such a situation, there are indications of Rahul Dravid’s return to IPL. Actually, the name of current Rajasthan Royals coach Kumar Sangakkara is in the news for the coach of England’s white ball team. If Sangakkara joins the England team, then Dravid can be a strong contender for the coach of the Rajasthan team. Dravid has also been the coach of Rajasthan Royals before.
Sangakkara was recently questioned by the English media about joining the England team and he did not completely rule it out, although he said that he is comfortable with the Royals. He said, “Well, I know my name is doing the rounds, but I have no such intention. I think the England coach is an exciting prospect for anyone, but there are a lot of good candidates out there. I am very happy at the moment. The experience at Rajasthan Royals has been very satisfying and it is a job that I have really enjoyed over the last four years.”
Sangakkara may join England
Sangakkara is considered close to England cricket team’s managing director Rob Key. Apart from this, Sangakkara and England captain Jos Buttler have a very good relationship in the Royals. This is the reason why no one will be surprised if Sangakkara becomes the coach of England’s limited overs team in the future.
The ECB said that the selection process has not started yet after the previous coach Matthew Mott recently left the post. An ECB official said, “The interview process will start after some time, but there is no shortlist yet.” Let us tell you, the England board has appointed Marcus Trescothick for the five-match home ODI series against Australia next month. This series will start in Southampton from September 11.
