New Delhi. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has finally taken over the post of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha. This is the first time that Rahul has taken up a constitutional post. When Rahul Gandhi arrived as the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha today, he was seen in a different and changed look. Rahul Gandhi, who is mostly seen in white T-shirt and trousers or jeans, arrived in Lok Sabha today wearing a white kurta and pyjama. Seeing Rahul Gandhi wearing kurta and pyjama after a long time, people started discussing his formal look.
It is worth noting that the post of Leader of Opposition is very important in the House and enjoys the status of a Cabinet Minister. The Leader of Opposition plays an important role in appointments to constitutional posts and parliamentary committees and many other matters. Rahul is the third member of the Gandhi family to hold the post of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Before Rahul, his mother Sonia Gandhi and father Rajiv Gandhi have also held this constitutional post. The special thing is that all the three members of the Gandhi family were elected Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha while being MPs from UP.
Rajiv Gandhi was the first from the Gandhi family to be elected Leader of Opposition in VP Singh’s government. He held this post from 1989 to 1990. Rajiv was an MP from Amethi at that time. After this, Sonia Gandhi was elected Leader of Opposition in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government in 1999. Sonia, MP from Rae Bareli, held this constitutional post till 2004. After this, Rahul, who was also elected MP from Rae Bareli, has now assumed this post. Due to the poor condition of the opposition in the first two terms of the Modi government, there was no formal Leader of Opposition, although informally Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary was made the Leader of Opposition in 2019 and Mallikarjun Kharge in 2014.
