New Delhi . Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Monday, wrote a letter to Congress -ruled Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Telangana CM Revanth Reddy to implement the ‘Rohit Vemula Act’. He also shared a letter to CM Sukhu and Revanth Reddy on social media platform X. He said that the Congress party is fully committed to every child to get equal access to education and eliminate ethnic discrimination.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi wrote on the social media platform X, “Our education system cannot be just for everyone until every student gets respect, security and equal opportunity without discrimination. After writing a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, I have written a letter to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Telangana Chief Minister Revant Reddy to implement the ‘Rohit Vemula Act’. ,
He further said that the Congress party is fully committed to every child to get equal access to education and eliminate ethnic discrimination.
Rahul Gandhi in a letter to both the Chief Minister mentioned two incidents of childhood of Babasaheb Ambedkar. First, when Babasaheb did not get water due to being “untouchable” during the bullock cart trip and second, when he had to sit alone despite his qualifications in school.
Earlier, he wrote a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah demanding the implementation of the ‘Rohit Vemula Act’.
After meeting Dalit, Adivasi and OBC students in the past, Rahul Gandhi wrote on the social media platform X, “Recently I met Dalit, Adivasi and OBC community students and teachers in Parliament. During the conversation, he told how he has to face discrimination on the basis of caste in colleges and universities. Baba Saheb Ambedkar had shown that education is the only means, from which the deprived can also become strong and break caste discrimination. But, it is very unfortunate that even after decades, millions of students are facing caste discrimination in our education system.
He wrote, “This discrimination has killed promising students like Rohit Vemula, Payal Tadvi and Darshan Solanki. Such horrific incidents cannot be tolerated at any cost. Now is the time to completely ban this injustice. I have written a letter to CM Siddaramaiah requesting that the Rohit Vemula Act be implemented in Karnataka.
