New Delhi. Like a common consumer, Indian Railways also compares the rates before buying anything and then buys it. This change has been made to save money. It is also yielding benefits. Jhansi division of North Central Railway has saved more than five crore rupees using this method. This method of saving will be adopted in other zones as well.
According to Manoj Kumar Singh, Public Relations Officer of Jhansi Division of North Central Railway, in the financial year 2024-25, revenue saving of Rs 5.28 crore has been made in electricity expenditure from Madhya Pradesh region in the month of April alone. This saving has been made possible by purchasing electricity from the open market.
I was very happy after boarding the moving train, but after some time I was shocked when I saw…and I will remember the journey for the rest of my life
He told that earlier the division used to buy electricity from selected companies only, for which payment had to be made as per the fixed rates. But the railways have changed this. Now instead of selected companies, electricity is being bought from the open market. Due to competition, electricity has become available at lower rates.
This saving has been done from 10 stations of Madhya Pradesh region. This includes the sub-stations of Datia, Hetampur, Gwalior, Bhind, Harpalpur, Niwari, Malanpur, Ishanagar, Sank and Basai.
It is worth noting that Indian Railways is adopting new methods to save money. For example, Northern Railways is earning crores of rupees by selling junk. This zone has become number one in the country in terms of earning from junk. According to the Railways, passenger facilities are being improved by saving money in this way.
