Due to its effect, there is continuous torrential rain in both parts of the country. There has been heavy rainfall from Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram. At the same time, the rain is not stopping in the states of Northeast. There is continuous torrential rain in states like Sikkim, Tripura, Assam. 1600 tourists are stuck in North Sikkim. Roads have been washed away by the strong flow of water or landslides. In some areas, communication has been cut off due to the collapse of the bridge. The situation is such that relief and rescue work is also not able to start due to bad weather. On the other hand, clouds are raining heavily in Cherrapunji, famous for the highest rainfall. The torrential rain can be estimated from the fact that 395 mm of water fell in just 3 hours.
Due to continuous heavy rains in Cherrapunji, rivers and streams of neighbouring country Bangladesh have also overflown. Flood situation has arisen in Sylhet. Bangladeshi meteorologists are citing heavy to very heavy rains in Cherrapunji as the reason for this. There is no hope of relief from rain for the people of Cherrapunji at the moment. There is a possibility of heavy rain with thunder on Wednesday as well. If the Meteorological Department is to be believed, the people of Cherrapunji are not going to get relief from heavy to very heavy rains this entire week. There is a forecast of rain with thunder on Saturday. Even after that, the period of torrential rain will continue.

Heavy rains in other parts of Meghalaya too
Apart from Cherrapunji and Mawsynram, other areas of Meghalaya are also receiving continuous rain. Normal life has been disrupted due to torrential rains. People are having a tough time even collecting essential items. Due to continuous heavy rains, many connecting routes have been disrupted. According to news agency ANI, torrential rains are continuously occurring in West Garo district of Meghalaya. Dozens of villages have lost connectivity and have been badly affected. It is being said that at least 42 villages have been affected by the torrential rains.
