Raipur. Preparations are underway to open kindergarten in Chhattisgarh state. This is a better attempt to bring Hindi medium education at par with English medium education. In English medium the child reaches Class-I after studying Nursery, KG-I and KG-II, i.e., by then he has acquired the knowledge of pre-primary, whereas in Hindi medium he is directly admitted to Class I. Till then he remains completely ignorant of education. Kindergarten will prove to be effective in bridging this gap. In this, from the age of three, children will be given pre-primary education in sports and games.
Kindergarten will be opened in 6,536 places of Chhattisgarh where there are Anganwadi centers. Kindergarten literally means children’s garden. This can be considered an important step for formal education, as there children will be prepared for that level even before they enter the primary classes. In the new education policy, instead of the 10+2 structure of the school curriculum, a new curriculum of 5+3+3+4 will be implemented, which is for children in the age group of 3-8 to 14-18, respectively. It has a provision to bring children of 3-6 years of age under the school curriculum, which till now was away from it. There will be complete physical and mental development of a child through Kindergarten.
There, basic skills like dressing, using toilets, sitting, speaking, reading etc. will be taught. Apart from this, control of emotions, desirable social behavior, etiquette, participation in group activities, creativity, interest towards education etc. will also be developed. Kindergarten allows children to be accommodated in a simple, intuitive manner, enabling them to learn basic concepts of mathematics, language and the natural sciences. Such an environment can be created through kindergarten, where children will learn to stay away from their parents, which will help in reducing problems like running away from school or lack of interest in studies in future.
Its establishment seems relevant considering the benefits of Kindergarten, but its operation and fulfillment of objectives is a challenge in itself. Recruitment of trained and experienced teachers, provision of adequate finance, coordination of policy and technology, continuous monitoring and review of progress are essential for the success of Kindergarten. It is to be hoped that the kindergarten will serve to shape the future generation according to the nature and need of the state. He should be recognized as such. This initiative of the government is undoubtedly commendable. This will bring a sigh of relief to the parents who always underestimate Hindi medium than English medium.
