Under the Third National Water Award 2020 organized by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, the state has been awarded the National Water Award 2020 for the second place for doing excellent work in the field of water storage and soil conservation on scientific basis under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana. . Similarly, Banswara district has also been rewarded with the National Water Award for securing the second position in the Best District Western Region category for its excellent efforts in the field of water conservation and management in the country.
Aparna Arora, Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, informed that 1 lakh 17 thousand 789 rain water harvesting works like anicut, check dam, mini percolation tank construction, micro irrigation tank construction, pond were done in the last 4 years. Johad Khet Talai was given for construction of Khadin Tanka rooftop water harvesting structure etc. He said that the water harvesting works revived the dry wells and inoperative hand pumps, due to which the groundwater has increased significantly and as a result, additional irrigation facilities have been made available in 14 thousand 800 hectares of land. He said that due to these water harvesting works, additional agricultural production in 46 thousand 879 hectares of land and 78 thousand hectares of barren land became productive.
It is noteworthy that in this third National Water Award 2020 organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, the National Water Award was received by the Director of Watershed Development and Soil Conservation Department, Mr. Ashish Gupta and Joint Director Mrs. Sushila Yadav, while Banswara district’s The award was received by District Collector Mr. Ankit Kumar and Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Parishad Banswara.
