Prime Minister Narendra Modi was today unanimously elected as the leader of the NDA Parliamentary Party. In a meeting of all NDA MPs in the Central Hall of the old Parliament House, all the allies unanimously supported the motion moved by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The motion was seconded by Home Minister Amit Shah, and leaders of the allies Chandrababu Naidu, Nitish Kumar, HD Kumaraswamy and others supported the motion. Nitish Kumar even said that he wanted Modi to take oath as Prime Minister today itself. In his thank you speech, Narendra Modi described the NDA’s election victory as ‘Mahavijay’ and said that the people rejected the Indi Alliance due to its history of corruption. Modi appealed to the NDA MPs not to trust the speculations going on about the allocation of ministries.
On the other hand, preparations for Modi’s third swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan have intensified. Chairs have been arranged for the guests in the courtyard of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Modi will take oath on Sunday, June 9, in which politicians from many neighboring countries will be present. These include countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bhutan. As far as speculations about ministries are concerned, I remember what Narendra Modi said in the first meeting of NDA MPs after the elections in 2014. In that meeting held in the Central Hall, Modi had said that now discussions will begin about the cabinet, many claims will be made, but do not fall for such rumors, if someone says that he can make you a minister, then do not believe it. If you get a call saying that I am calling from the Prime Minister’s Office, you are being made a minister, then also do not believe it, call the Prime Minister’s Office once and ask, because I have to take the decision, and no one else. After that such speculations stopped, the shops of middlemen roaming in the corridors of power have closed. But this time the situation has changed. BJP has not got absolute majority. A coalition government is being formed, so the talks of that era have started again. But perhaps people are forgetting that only the numbers have changed, the circumstances have changed, but Narendra Modi is the same person who does not compromise and does not succumb to pressure.
It is true that this government of Narendra Modi will be dependent on the support of Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar, so they will have to be taken care of. But as per my knowledge, Chandrababu Naidu has not put any condition. Chandrababu Naidu has only told Narendra Modi that you should run the government of the country in the same way as you were running it, he will give full unconditional support and in return whatever support he needs from the Centre for the welfare of the people of Andhra Pradesh, he should get it from the Central Government. This is the only condition. Apart from this, there has been no talk with Nitish Kumar or Chandrababu Naidu regarding any post, number of ministers or ministries, and neither of them has put forward any demand from their side till now. Apart from the share in the government, there are some issues on which there are ideological differences between BJP, TDP and JDU. Therefore, now those issues are being aired. It is being asked what will be the stand of JDU and TDP on Common Civil Code. Will these two parties demand special status for Bihar and Andhra. Will they put pressure on Modi to withdraw the Agniveer scheme? JDU also gave clear answers to these questions. Nitish Kumar held a meeting with his party MPs. He explained his priorities to all the MPs. He also made it clear that he was with NDA and will remain with NDA.
It is true that the leaders of the opposition parties will try to create controversy on issues like Uniform Civil Code, special status to the states, caste census and Agniveer scheme, but BJP leaders say that it will not be difficult to reach a consensus on all these issues. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has already said that the government will remove the shortcomings that come to light in the Agniveer scheme on the basis of experience, there will be no hesitation in reconsidering this scheme. Therefore, if the allies demand in this matter, the government will not insist on the Agniveer scheme. As far as caste census is concerned, BJP has never opposed it. Therefore, it is possible that the government may agree to caste census.
BJP leaders say that on the question of UCC, Home Minister Amit Shah has made it clear that UCC is on BJP’s agenda but whether to implement it or not will depend on the states. Therefore, there will be no problem in this as well. There will be some difficulty regarding special status because both Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu are demanding special status for their respective states. The problem of the central government is that if Bihar and Andhra Pradesh are given special state status, then other states will also demand it. Niti Aayog has also abolished this provision. Therefore, instead of giving special state status, Narendra Modi can give additional help for the development of Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. Overall, Narendra Modi also knows that the government is a coalition and Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu are also not new to politics. They also know the limitations of the central government. Therefore, there is less scope for conflict on such issues.Rajat Sharma,
