New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief over the loss of lives in a fire incident in Gujarat’s Rajkot and said the local administration is working to provide all possible help to those affected. At least 25 people, including nine children, were killed and several others injured in a massive fire that broke out in a crowded game zone in Rajkot city in the evening, police said. The death toll is expected to rise depending on the situation.
PM Modi posted on social media platform ‘X’, “Deeply saddened by the fire incident in Rajkot. My condolences are with all those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for the injured. The local administration is working to provide all possible assistance to the affected people.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed grief over the incident. He said on ‘X’, “I am deeply saddened by the accident in Rajkot’s game zone. I have spoken to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and got information regarding this accident. The administration is making every possible effort for relief and rescue work and is providing treatment to the injured. I express my deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this tragic accident and wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced compensation in connection with the incident. He wrote on ‘X’, “The state government will give Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50 thousand to the injured. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed in this regard and it has been entrusted with the responsibility of investigating the entire matter.”
Officials said that the fire broke out in the area built for gaming activities at around 4.30 pm, after which rescue operations have been going on in the affected TRP game zone for more than four hours. A large number of people were present in the gaming zone when the incident took place. Many families had come to the game zone of the mall with their children on the weekend.
After getting the information, the fire brigade and police team reached the spot and started the rescue. Meanwhile, the police have arrested the gaming zone owner Yuvraj Solanki. Game zone manager Nitin Jain and game zone partner Yuvraj Singh Solanki have been taken into custody. Game zone has 3 partners, including Prakash Jain, Yuvraj Singh Solanki, Rahul Rathod.
