Ramdas Athavale
Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said on Sunday that his party ‘Republican Party of India’ (Athawale) is in favor of conducting caste census in the country and some way should be found for this. Athawale told reporters in Indore that since Article 17 of the Constitution provides for the abolition of casteism, all governments have always been faced with the problem of how to conduct caste-based census? Athawale said, “My party demands that some way should be found because once the caste-based census is done, we will know the percentage of every caste in the population.”
Ramdas Athawale said- a way should be found for caste census
He said that if in future it is decided to give the benefit of reservation to every caste on the basis of its share in the population, then his party will not oppose it because there are poor people in every caste. Targeting former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Athawale said, “I want to ask Gandhi that when the Congress government was in power at the Center, why was the caste census not conducted?” On a question, the Union Minister said that there should be no malpractice in NEET and the Education Ministry is taking all possible steps to prevent future malpractices in this entrance exam.
Athawale said- we will fight the elections after correcting the mistakes
Athawale claimed that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will get 170 to 180 seats out of 288 in the assembly elections proposed in October in Maharashtra. He said, “The issue of constitution will not work in the Maharashtra assembly elections. The main issue in this election will be the development of the state. We will rectify the mistakes we have made (in the Lok Sabha elections) and enter the electoral fray.”
