Bihar’s Sakibul Ghani scored a triple century in his debut Ranji match. Sakibul Ghani, who has batted tremendously against Mizoram, now has a challenge to break a poor record which has been going on for 53 years.
Sakibul Ghani, a resident of Motihari, a small town in Bihar, created history in his debut Ranji match. He has become the first batsman in the world to score a triple century in his debut first-class match. Sakibul Ghani, who has batted tremendously against Mizoram, now has a challenge to break a poor record which has been going on for 53 years. Apart from this, he also has the challenge of not becoming a ‘one match wonder’ player.
In fact, Sakibul Ghani has become the 10th batsman for India to score 200 or more runs in the first class. Before him, nine players had scored 200 or more runs, but none had scored a triple century. Surprisingly, out of the earlier nine players, only one got a chance to play in international cricket. Gundappa Vishwanath was the only player to do so. He played the first match for India in 1969.
Gundappa Vishwanath scored 230 against Andhra Pradesh in November 1967 while playing for Mysore. Vishwanath, who scored close to 18 thousand runs in the first class, is considered one of the greatest batsmen of India. He scored 6080 runs in 91 Tests. He has scored 14 centuries during this period. Apart from them, Manipur’s Mayank Raghav, Punjab’s Jiwanjot Singh, Madhya Pradesh’s Anshuman Pandey, Punjab’s Abhishek Gupta, Madhya Pradesh’s Ajay Rohera, Chandigarh’s Arslan Khan, Mumbai’s Amol Majumdar and Gujarat’s Manpreet Juneja scored 200 runs in their debut match. Made more, but could not play for India.
Sakibul hit a four on every seventh ball
Sakibul Ghani scored 341 runs in the plate group of the Ranji Trophy against Mizoram. He hit 56 fours and two sixes in his 405-ball innings. During this his strike rate was 84.20. If we look at Sakibul’s innings, he has hit a four in every seventh ball. Out of 341, 236 runs were scored only by fours and sixes.
Sakibul broke Ajay Rohera’s record
Sakibul broke the record held by Ajay Rohera of Madhya Pradesh. Rohera scored 267 runs against Hyderabad in December 2018. He hit 21 fours and five sixes in 345 balls. Rohera, who exploded in the debut match, has not yet got a chance to play in international cricket. He has nine first-class and six List-A matches in his account.
Rohera had broken Amol Majumdar’s record in 2018. Majumdar scored 260 against Haryana in his debut match in 1994. Amol scored more than 11,000 runs in the first class with the help of 30 centuries, but he never got a chance to play for India.
