Expansion
Yash Dhul, who made the Indian team champion under his captaincy in the Under-19 World Cup, has made a great start to his Ranji career. In his debut match, he scored a century in both the innings. Dhul has become the third Indian batsman to score a century in both the innings in his debut match. In the match against Tamil Nadu, Dhul scored 113 runs in both the innings. However, Delhi’s team could not win this match and in the end the match was drawn.
Batsmen like Sachin, Dravid and Virat, who did wonders in Tests for India, have not been able to do this feat. Before Dhul, only two Indian batsmen were able to score centuries in both the innings of their first Ranji match. Nari Contractor from Gujarat had scored 152 and 102 runs in 1952/53. In 2012/13, Virag Awate of Maharashtra scored 126 and 112 runs.
Dust got ahead of legends like Sachin and Virat
Yash Dhul has surpassed the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Sachin also scored a century in his first Ranji match, but he could not achieve this feat in both the innings. At the same time, Virat had come to the Indian team six months after winning the Under-19 World Cup and did not play many matches in the Ranji Trophy. But in the first match, his bat did not score a century.
Seventh batsman to score a century in both the innings for Delhi
SM Qadri was the first batsman to score a century in both the innings of Ranji Trophy. He scored 105 and 114 runs. In the match played between Bombay and Western India in December 1935, Qadri scored a century in both the innings for Bombay. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was the first batsman to score a century in both the innings for Delhi. After him Surinder Khanna, Madan Lal, Ajay Sharma, Raman Lamba, Rishabh Pant and now Yash Dhul have achieved this feat.
Dhul wants to make a place in Team India in 18 months
Yash Dhul’s dream is to make it to the senior team in the next 18 months. Yash was away from family for two months and got only half an hour to meet his parents while fulfilling his dream of becoming the Under-19 world champion. Yash says- Even if I can make it to Team India in 18 months, still I will work hard till I achieve my goal.
