In India, a large number of Rapido bikes have been confiscated due to the ongoing protests by taxi unions and autorickshaw drivers in Bengaluru against Rapido bike-taxi. According to the information received, after the pressure, the officials of Yesvantpur RTO have confiscated 120 two-wheelers registered under Rapido. These vehicles were confiscated because they were whiteboard vehicles, which were not authorized to be used as bike taxis.
This entire incident has been confirmed by Additional Commissioner of Transport L Narendra Holkar. In his official statement, he said, “Whiteboard vehicles, whether two wheelers, four wheelers or autorickshaws, are not authorized to be used as taxis in any case. There have been several complaints from autorickshaw drivers in the recent past, regarding Indicated that whiteboard vehicles were used illegally on the roads of Bengaluru without the required documents.”
Not valid for bike taxi insurance
Although Holkar claimed that it is completely illegal to use bike taxis on public roads, the action here is not specifically against Rapido, but against all the bike taxis in the city that ply as whiteboard vehicles. Huh. Adding findings to his statement, Holkar also confirmed that bikes used illegally in the city are not liable for taxi insurance,
If any accident or unfortunate accident occurs with loss of vehicle or life, then who will be responsible for it. If any person is found riding such illegal bike taxi, he will be fined Rs 10,000-15,000 for violating the rules.
The company expressed disappointment
Expressing dismay, Rapido co-founder Pawan Guntupalli said, “Riders of bike taxis are harassed without any valid reason, simply because autorickshaw drivers are resisting competition from bike taxis. Confirmed that Rapido is a law-abiding company and operating within the limits of the law, and is even a regular tax-paying entity in all states where it has a presence.
