Once again there has been a huge increase in the number of counterfeit notes in the country, it has been revealed in the annual report of RBI. According to the report, the country’s banking system caught 79,669 fake 500 rupees notes in the financial year 2021-22, which is 101 percent more than the previous financial year. In the financial year 2020-21, this figure was about 39,453 counterfeit notes.
In the financial year 2021-22, the number of counterfeit notes of 2000 has also increased by 54.6 percent, last financial year this figure was 8,798 notes. It has been told in the report that in the financial year 2021-22, 354 fake notes of Rs 10 have been found, whose number was 304 in the last financial year while 311, fake notes of Rs 20 have been caught, whose number was 267 in the last financial year.
The total number of counterfeit notes seized in the financial year 2021-22 stood at 2,30,971. In the financial year 2020-21, this figure was 2,08,625 which was 2,96,695 in the financial year 2019-20.
In the annual report of RBI, it has been said that in comparison to the financial year 2020-21, in 2021-22, 16.4 percent in the number of counterfeit notes of 10 rupees, 16.5 percent in the number of counterfeit notes of 20 rupees, in the number of fake notes of 50 rupees. There has been an increase of 28.7 per cent, 16.7 per cent in the number of fake Rs 100 notes, 11.7 per cent in the number of fake Rs 200 notes, 101.56 per cent in the number of fake Rs 500 notes and 54.6 per cent in the number of fake Rs 2000 notes. .
The report said that out of the number of counterfeit notes, 6.9 per cent notes were caught by the RBI while banks have caught 93 per cent notes. In the financial year 2021-22, Rs 4,984 crore has been spent by the government on the printing of notes, which was Rs 4012 crore from the last financial year (July 2020 to March 2021).
According to the report, there has been a jump of 88.4 percent in the number of torn old notes. In the financial year, 1,878 crore torn old notes were exchanged by banks as compared to 997 crore in the last financial year.
