The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday announced candidates for all the five Rajya Sabha seats. But the opposition is attacking the Aam Aadmi Party regarding the selection of candidates. The opposition is accusing AAP that the party has relied on non-Punjabi and outside candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections and AAP has tried to dupe Punjabis.
AAP on Monday nominated former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Lovely Professional University founder Ashok Mittal, party MLA from Delhi Raghav Chadha, IIT Delhi assistant professor Sandeep Pathak and industrialist Sanjeev Arora for the March 31 Rajya Sabha elections. . All the candidates filed their nomination papers in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Complex. Of the five, only Harbhajan is a Sikh. The opposition parties are largely upset with the nominations of Raghav Chadha and Sandeep Pathak as both do not belong to Punjab.
Congress MLA from Bholath Sukhpal Singh Khaira said that, “The nominations are not only disappointing but have a clear seal of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. My impression was that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann would send some prominent personalities of Punjab to the Upper House so that they could effectively raise various issues related to the state. However, it seems that the CM has completely surrendered the interests of Punjab.
