Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested gangster Ejaz Lakdawala for demanding extortion of 2 crores. Ejaz Lakdawala is accused of allegedly threatening a hotelier and demanding an extortion of Rs 2 crore. The Anti-Extortion Cell of Mumbai Police has detained Lakdawala from Taloja Jail. He was lodged in this jail since his arrest from Patna in the year 2020.
According to the information, the Mumbai Crime Branch has taken this action against Ejaz for allegedly threatening hotelier Ali Raza Abdi and demanding extortion of Rs 2 crore. Police suspect that the alleged thief Mohammad Fasi, who once worked for complainant hotelier Ali Raza Abdi, had provided phone numbers and other information to gangster Lakdawala.
The complainant hotelier Ali Raza Abdi, in his complaint to the police, had told the police that he had received threatening calls from gangsters from international numbers in 2013 and 2018 demanding extortion of Rs 2 crore for running his business smoothly. Police took Lakdawala into custody and interrogated him in the case in which the gangster allegedly confessed to threatening Ali Abdi for extortion.
The complainant Ali Raza Abdi, the owner of Sheesha Sky Lounge, was threatened by Lakdawala. Ejaz Lakdawala was arrested in January 2020 from Mithapur overbridge near Patna Junction on the behest of daughter Sonia. He was lodged in Taloja jail since his arrest and a case was registered against him under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA).
It is to be known that Ejaz Lakdawala was a resident of Jogeshwari area of Mumbai and has been close to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Ejaz has more than two dozen cases registered against him, including heinous crimes like murder, kidnapping and ransom. Ejaz had escaped from the hospital in 2004 and was believed to be living somewhere in South Africa. Ejaz was a member of the Chhota Rajan gang during the Mafia Raj in Mumbai.
