The new variant XE of Corona virus has now knocked in Gujarat. Here this new variant has been confirmed in a 67-year-old elderly. On March 12, this person was corona infected, after which new variants have been confirmed in the samples sent for testing.
Confirming this, Additional Chief Secretary Manoj Aggarwal said that this person had come to Vadodara from Mumbai. On March 12, when his health deteriorated, it was found that he was corona infected. Agarwal said, “Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center detected the XE variant in the patient 12 days ago. Thereafter, as per INSACOG guidelines, samples were sent to Kolkata laboratory (DBT- National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), Kalyani) for confirmation. Confirmation of the XE variant in the patient was reported on Friday (April 8) night. Efforts are on to trace the close contacts of the patient.”
Dr Devesh Patel, Medical Officer, Vadodara, told The Indian Express, “The 67-year-old patient hails from Mumbai, who had visited Vadodara with his wife. During this, his health deteriorated, so he got the corona test done. After the report came positive, he returned to Mumbai and got home quarantined. He did not meet anyone in Vadodara.”
BMC claims – Female XE variant returned from South Africa infected
Earlier this week, a 50-year-old woman who had returned from South Africa was reported to be infected with the XE variant. However, the Union Health Ministry had denied this report. The Center and the Maharashtra government clashed over this. On Wednesday (April 6) the BMC had claimed that the XE variant was confirmed in a woman who had returned from South Africa a month ago. At the same time, the central agencies rejected it raising questions.
The new variant spreads 10 percent faster than other variants

There has been a sudden increase in corona cases in many countries including Britain, for which this variant is being held responsible. The World Health Organization has said that this variant spreads 10 percent faster than others. Its first case was found in Britain on 19 January.
