Violence erupted in West Bengal’s Birbhum district following the killing of a TMC leader, leading to the tragic death of 10 people. Two innocent children are also among the dead. The incident took place in Bagtui village of Birbhum district. After the murder of the Trinamool leader, his supporters torched several houses in which 10 people died. Among those who died, 8 people belong to the same family.
Talking to a news channel about the violence in Birbhum, BJP MP Roopa Ganguly said, “I think there is no place left from violence in West Bengal. Shots are being fired in broad daylight, if someone goes to the market in the evening, he is shot directly in the head. How do people live here? On the Birbhum incident, the police is saying that no one was killed. So are people bringing them from outside and leaving them there? What to say if the police are getting themselves killed by standing? The Home Minister has asked for a report but where does the Bengal government listen?
Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also raised this issue in Lok Sabha and he said, “I will meet the President of India on this issue and request him to implement Article 355 in the state, because law and order in Bengal.” Not there. At the same time, BJP has said that the people involved in the incident are associated with Trinamool Congress and they have set fire to the houses in which 10 people died.
BJP MPs met Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday on the Birbhum violence and then the Home Ministry has summoned a report from the Mamata Banerjee government of Bengal within 72 hours. At the same time, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar has demanded the resignation of Mamta Banerjee.
On the Birbhum incident, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “The government is ours, we would never want anyone to die. The Rampurhat incident is unfortunate, after the incident we immediately dismissed the OC, SDPO. I will go to Rampurhat tomorrow. More such incidents happened in Gujarat Rajasthan, I am not justifying the Rampurhat incident, we will take action without any bias.”
