After the humiliating defeat of the Congress in five election states, the party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi has swung into action. In a development on Tuesday, Sonia has asked the heads of the five electoral districts to resign. He says that the party will have to be rebuilt in these. For this there is a dire need of radical changes in the organisation.
Giving information about this in his tweet, Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala said that the party leadership is taking the defeat very seriously. Congress has a rich history. In such a situation, the party should be out of the fight, this thing is beyond comprehension. He said that in the meeting of CWC also it was discussed that what should be done to make the party strong again. Everyone said that tough decisions have to be taken.

Under Election 2022, elections were held in UP, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur and Punjab. In UP, Congress had played bets on Priyanka Gandhi and in Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat took charge of the party. In Goa, Chidambaram was given the responsibility, while in Punjab the pair of Charanjit Singh Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu were in the fray. But neither Priyanka showed any magic in UP nor could Channi hit in Punjab. In Uttarakhand and Goa, the party was hopeful that its government would be formed this time, but in both the places it faced a lot of disappointment.
The situation was so bad that in Punjab, where the Congress was in power, it was reduced to just 18 seats. The special thing is that even if the power is lost, it is in the hands of AAP, which has started projecting itself as an alternative to Congress. In Uttarakhand, the party did not appear in the fight and in UP it did not show any existence. Despite all the claims of Chidambaram in Goa, the Congress could not stop the BJP from garnering a majority.
All these things were discussed in depth in Sunday’s Working Committee meeting. It is believed that Sonia has come into action after seeing the sharp attitude of the rebel leaders. They also feel that if they keep sitting behind the curtain, then the party can get out of hand. The rebel leaders who are creating ruckus over the defeat.
