Yogi Adityanath’s Oath Ceremony LIVE: The newly elected MLAs of BJP, who returned to power in the country’s largest state in terms of population, are to meet today. In this, the legislature party will formally choose its leader.
Sources said that it is certain that Yogi Adityanath will continue as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh while the party is yet to finalize the name for the deputy chief minister’s post. He said that many names came up during the discussion in this regard, including those who lost the assembly elections and outgoing Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Dinesh Sharma, Baby Rani Maurya, Brijesh Pathak, Swatantra Dev Singh and AK Sharma.
However, sources say that the BJP may retain Maurya as the deputy chief minister. Many in the party believe that BJP will make Shrikant Sharma a minister again, while newly elected MLA and former Enforcement Directorate officer Rajeshwar Singh may also be given a chance.
Earlier, the nominated CM Yogi met BJP National President JP Nadda on Wednesday and discussed about government formation in the state. Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been appointed as the party observer for the process of government formation in the state.
