The 2019 Lok Sabha elections and assembly elections were contested by Shiv Sena as an ally of the BJP, but during the assembly elections, the two parties had a rift and the alliance broke down. At that time, Shiv Sena had accused the BJP of not sharing the chief minister’s post.
The Shiv Sena spent Rs 24.30 crore in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while Rs 53.27 crore was spent in the assembly elections. In 2019, twice as much money was spent on the Maharashtra Assembly elections held in the same year as compared to the Lok Sabha elections.
The party also spent Rs 11.23 lakh on Bihar assembly elections in 2020. In this election, Shiv Sena had fielded 22 candidates. Shiv Sena got 0.05 percent of the total votes cast in Bihar Assembly Elections 2020, which was less than 1.68 percent votes cast for NOTA.
According to the income and expenditure account submitted by the party in the financial year 2020-21, Shiv Sena had collected Rs 85.36 lakh by way of fee and membership. At the same time, Rs 25.39 lakh was collected under the same head in the financial year 2019-20. On the other hand, the party had received Rs 72.53 lakh in the form of grants and donations in the year ended March 31, 2021, which is much less than Rs 105.64 crore received by the party in the same head on March 31, 2020.
