New Delhi. Jaibir, a retired army man, is earning lakhs of rupees in Madaudi village of Rohtak, Haryana. Jaibir Singh started cultivating papaya in 22 acres in his village. The cost of cultivating papaya in one acre is 80 to 85 thousand rupees, in which the government has solved half the problems of the farmer by giving a subsidy of 43 thousand rupees.
So far, Jaibir has sold papaya worth Rs 5 lakh from one acre. The farmer, overjoyed with the increase in income, has appealed to other farmers to leave traditional farming and grow vegetables and fruits. Jaibir, a farmer from Madaudi village in Rohtak district, while talking to IANS said that he started farming after retiring from the army. One of my friends advised me to grow vegetables and fruits, after which I started growing papaya in 22 acres without any knowledge.
He said, “In the beginning, there was a little loss. After this, I kept working in vegetable farming from time to time. The horticulture department then advised me to cultivate papaya. In the beginning, there was a decent income. After that, my enthusiasm increased and the government is also giving a subsidy of 43 thousand rupees.”
Farmer Jaibeer told that the annual income from one acre is about 5 lakh rupees, out of which the cost is about 80 thousand rupees. Papaya farming is also easy. The cost is low and the savings are good. Jaibeer appealed to the farmers to leave traditional farming and move towards vegetable and fruit farming, so that they can also meet their daily expenses. People from Delhi, Gurugram and Rohtak also come to buy papaya.
