The High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident of vandalism in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College on the night of August 14 and has strongly reprimanded the Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal. The division bench of Calcutta High Court Chief Justice TS Shivaganam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharya questioned the state’s Mamata government that how did 7 thousand people suddenly gather in the hospital? This is the result of the failure of the state machinery. The bench said in a strict tone that if the situation is like this, then RG Kar Hospital should be closed and the patients admitted there should be shifted to some other hospital.

Chief Justice TS Sivaganam raised questions on the police and administration and said that if you cannot provide security to the doctors, then how will they perform their duty without fear? Let us tell you that junior residents and medical students are continuously protesting against the rape and murder of the doctor in RG Kar Medical College. A large number of girl students are also involved in this. Meanwhile, on the night of August 14, about 7 thousand people entered the hospital and vandalized it.

The High Court bench, taking cognizance of the matter, said that if 15 people had entered, it could have been considered a lapse in security, but such a large number of people entering the hospital is completely exposing the government’s failure. On the other hand, many government doctors across the country are on strike today demanding security in protest against the rape and murder of the doctor. OPD services are closed in many big hospitals of the country. Patients and their families are facing a lot of trouble due to the doctors’ strike. Health services are in a completely bad state.
