RGkar Rape Murder: Protests are going on across the country against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Doctors are on strike. However, the investigation of the case has been handed over to the CBI. Despite this, the doctors’ protest continues. Meanwhile, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is angry with the doctors’ protest. She has said that do the protesters and opposition parties want to turn West Bengal into Bangladesh on the pretext of this incident?
However, Banerjee has welcomed the Calcutta High Court’s order to hand over the investigation of the case to the CBI. Banerjee accused the opposition CPI(M) and BJP of politicizing the incident and trying to incite protests in the state like the student movement in Bangladesh. The Chief Minister appealed to the protesting doctors to abandon the boycott of work and return to work, as health services have been badly affected.
He said, “We will follow the order of the Calcutta High Court and will fully cooperate with the CBI. We have no problem with the case being handed over to the CBI, because we want this case to be solved as soon as possible.” The High Court transferred the doctor’s rape and murder case from the Kolkata Police to the CBI on Tuesday.
Addressing a programme organised by the party on the eve of Independence Day, he said, “We have taken all possible action in this matter, but still the malicious campaign is going on.” He said, “You can abuse me as much as you want, but please do not abuse the state.”
