The family of Hyderabad University student Rohith Vemula on Friday said they will legally challenge the Telangana Police’s closure report in Rohith’s suicide case. Rohit’s brother Raja Vemula claimed that the District Magistrate did not take any decision regarding the family being a Scheduled Caste. On this the police said that they will investigate further. The police probing the death of Rohith Vemula, a former Hyderabad University student, have filed a closure report before a local court, claiming that he was not a Dalit and had committed suicide before his ‘real identity’ was revealed. Had committed suicide due to fear.
Police gave clean chit
Citing lack of evidence, the police gave a ‘clean chit’ to the accused in this case. Referring to the suspicion expressed by Rohith Vemula’s family, Telangana Director General of Police Ravi Gupta said in a statement late on Friday that a petition would be filed in the concerned court and the magistrate would be requested to allow further investigation. Let us tell you that Rohit Vemula had committed suicide in the year 2016. The report said, ‘The deceased himself knew that he did not belong to the Scheduled Caste and his mother had given him a fake SC certificate.’
Police said this in the report
The report said that he feared that Vemula’s academic degree could be withdrawn as a result of this being exposed. Also, after this matter comes to light, he may have to face prosecution. There were many issues related to this case which were troubling the deceased. Being upset due to this, Rohit Vemula committed suicide. According to the report, despite all efforts, no evidence was found to prove that the actions of the accused had instigated the deceased to commit suicide.
