Recall issued for seven countries including India
New Delhi, May 19 (IANS)| Two-wheeler major Royal Enfield on Wednesday voluntarily recalled 2,36,966 motorcycles of Classic, Bullet and Meteor models due to faulty ignition coils.
According to the company, a fault in the ignition coil can lead to misfiring, reduced vehicle performance and, in rare cases, an electric short circuit. The recalled bikes were manufactured between December 2020 and April 2021. The company said in a statement that during routine internal testing, such defects were detected in the bikes and the issue has been clearly identified. Therefore, these bikes made between December 2020 and April 2021 are being recalled.
Royal Enfield says that although this problem is rare, not all motorcycles will have this defect, but in view of the company’s safety regulations and precautionary measures, it has been decided to issue a recall for all models. The recalled bikes were manufactured between December 2020 and April 2021. These include the Meteor 350 motorcycles, which were manufactured and sold between December 2020 and April 2021, while the Classic 350 and Bullet 350 bikes, which were manufactured and sold between January and April 2021.
If necessary, these motorcycles will be inspected and replaced at no charge. Royal Enfield estimates that less than 10 per cent of the total motorcycles will require replacement. Royal Enfield has jointly issued this recall for the Meteor 350, Classic 350 and Bullet 350 in seven countries – India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand.
