Rahul got two lives
Meyers (51) gave the team a good start by adding 82 runs for the first wicket with captain KL Rahul (39), taking advantage of two lives. The run rate of the Super Giants was curbed by Ravichandran Ashwin (2 for 23) and Trent Boult (1 for 16) but the team was helped by a 45-run fifth-wicket partnership between Nicholas Pooran (29) and Marcus Stoinis (21). Succeeded in taking the score beyond 150 runs.
Royals captain Sanju Samson invited the Super Giants to bat first, after which the bowlers of the hosts got off to a good start. Trent Boult bowled the first over maiden while the Super Giants could manage only 18 runs in four overs. Meanwhile, off Sandeep Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped a simple catch of Lucknow captain KL Rahul at extra cover. Kyle Meyers hit Boult for the first six of the innings but Rahul was lucky for the second time in the same over. This time Jason Holder dropped his catch at mid-off.
Ashwin two wickets in one over
Lucknow Super Giants scored 37 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay. Myers took the team’s score to 50 runs in the eighth over with a six over Holder. Rahul returned to the pavilion after playing Holder’s ball straight into the hands of Jos Buttler at long on. He hit four fours and a six in his 32-ball innings. Boult gave another blow to the Super Giants by bowling Ayush Badoni (01) in the next over. Myers completed his half-century in 40 balls with two consecutive fours and then one run on Chahal.
In Ravichandran Ashwin’s next over, Deepak Hooda (02) was caught by Shimron Hetmyer at deep square leg in an attempt to play a big shot. Ashwin bowled Myers in the same over to score Super Giants 104 for four. Myers faced 42 balls and hit four fours and three sixes. Puran scored 17 runs in the 19th over with two fours and a six on Holder. The team added eight runs in the last over of Sandeep Sharma, losing three wickets including Pooran and Stoinis.
