This action has been taken by Odisha Transport Department. This strictness was shown against minor drivers. Action was taken against parents under the road safety campaign.

New Delhi. Usually strict action is taken against people who violate traffic rules, but the Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) took action not against the drivers but against their parents. This was done because the person sitting on the driving seat was found to be a minor. He did not have a license to drive a scooter, bike or any other vehicle. This is the reason why strict action was taken against his parents.

The government said on Tuesday that a special campaign is being run across the state to ensure road safety. On its first day on Monday, 153 challans were issued against juvenile drivers. Also, 60 of these vehicles were also seized. On the first day of the campaign, the focus was on minors. So 153 challans were issued under 38 regional transport offices including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Ganjam, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Balasore.

Campaign conducted near colleges…
According to news agency PTI, recently Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena directed the STA to take strict measures to reduce road accidents. Then the transport department teams conducted inspections at major points and near schools and colleges. The STA said, “Many students, who were not of legal driving age and did not have a driving license, were found driving bikes and scooters in educational institutions.”

Action on parents…
The inspection teams caught the teen drivers under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, which imposes a fine of Rs 25,000 against the parents or vehicle owners of the teen drivers. In some of these cases, the law provides for imprisonment of up to 3 years. The transport department requested the parents of students and educational institutions to prevent teens from driving. Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur said that despite various awareness campaigns, some reckless drivers have not yet reformed, and this step is being taken to catch them. He said that this law will not be limited to just teen driving, but will also include cases of fitness, helmet, seat belt, speeding and drunk driving.
