Kyiv. Today marks the 24th day that Moscow invaded Kyiv. On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged Russia to have “meaningful talks on peace”.
In his video address posted on Facebook early Saturday, the president said “a meaningful dialogue on peace is the only chance for Ukraine to reduce the damage caused by Russia’s mistakes.”
“It’s time to meet. It’s time to talk. It’s time to restore territorial integrity and justice to Ukraine. Otherwise, Russia’s loss will be so great that several generations will not be enough to rebound.”
Zelensky’s remarks come as Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine, targeting major cities and infrastructure.
The mayor of Mariupol, one of the worst affected, has confirmed that fighting has reached the city centre, with more than 80 percent of residential buildings either damaged or destroyed, the BBC reported.
Hundreds of people are still trapped in the basement of a theater in Mariupol, which was bombed by Russia on Thursday.
According to Zelensky, Russian shelling prevented Mariupol officials from establishing effective humanitarian corridors in the besieged city.
