Kyiv: Russia has launched another deadly missile attack on Ukraine’s capital Kiev. Three missiles fired by Russia fell on an eight-story building in Chernihiv, northern Ukraine, on Wednesday, killing at least 13 people, according to local Ukrainian officials. The building was blown to pieces. The city’s acting mayor, Alexander Lomaco, said at least 18 people were injured in the morning attack and have been admitted to a nearby hospital. The condition of many of them is critical.
The attack took place in Chernihiv, about 150 kilometers north of the capital Kiev, near the border between Russia and Belarus. Its population is around 2,50,000. Let us tell you that due to Western countries not providing additional military equipment to Ukraine, its position in the war against Russia is weakening. Russia continues to make advances in Ukraine as the war enters its third year. However, during the winter months, Russia was unable to make any progress on the war front.
Shortage of ammunition and weapons in Ukraine
Military analysts say Russia is making a slow advance into Ukraine due to a shortage of ammunition, troops and armored vehicles. A contrasting fact for Ukraine is the stalling of approval in Washington of the aid package which includes about US$60 billion for Ukraine. Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson said on Sunday that he would try to advance the package this week. According to the Washington-based think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW), there is a rapid shortage of military equipment in Ukraine.
Russia is gaining ground over Ukraine
ISW said in a report on Tuesday that Russia is rapidly gaining ground due to delays in the provision of US military aid to Ukraine. The report said that without American aid, Ukraine cannot last long on the battlefield. ISW said Ukraine most needs air defense systems and artillery right now. Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that a Ukrainian drone was shot down in the Mordovia region, about 350 kilometers east of Moscow. This place is 700 kilometers away from the Ukraine border. (AP)
