Russia-Ukraine War: The war between Russia and Ukraine is taking a dangerous turn. Russia on Saturday launched a counter operation in three border areas adjacent to Ukraine to stop Kiev’s biggest attack. Ukrainian soldiers crossed the border on Tuesday morning and launched a surprise attack in Russia’s western Kursk region. After this attack, Ukrainian soldiers have entered several kilometers inside Russia. Russia has deployed additional troops and equipment including tanks, rocket launchers, aviation units to stop the advancing Ukrainian troops.

What did Russia’s anti-terrorism unit say?

According to media reports, Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Unit has said that it is launching an operation in Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions to ensure the safety of civilians. Under Russian law, security forces and the army are given broad emergency powers during “anti-terrorism” operations. During this, vehicles can be seized, phone calls can be monitored, areas can be declared no-go zones, check points can be introduced and security can be increased at key infrastructure sites. The anti-terrorism unit has said that Ukraine has “attempted to destabilize the situation in a number of regions of our country.”

Russia intensified attacks

Meanwhile, Russia has declared a state of emergency in the Kursk region and stepped up security operations. Russia’s Defense Ministry on Saturday published footage of tank crews firing on Ukrainian positions in the Kursk region as well as air strikes overnight. Such action has been taken by Russia after Ukrainian troops crossed the border. Earlier, officials had said that a missile fired by a Russian plane fell into a Ukrainian shopping mall, killing at least 10 people and injuring 35 others.
