Moscow: Three of the four suspects arrested in connection with a terrorist attack on a concert hall in the Russian capital Moscow confessed to the crime during a hearing in a Russian court on Sunday. More than 130 people were killed in this attack. Moscow’s Basmanny District Court has formally charged Delerdzhan Mirzoyev, 32, Saidakrami Rachablizoda, 30, Mukhamadsobir Faizov, 19, and Shamsidin Fariduni, 25, with the terrorist attack. This crime carries a maximum punishment of life imprisonment. All these accused are citizens of Tajikistan.
Injuries on the faces of the accused
The court ordered that all the accused be kept in pre-trial custody till May 22. After the charges were framed, Mirzoyev, Rachablizoda and Shamsidin Fariduni confessed to the crime. The fourth accused, Faizov, was brought straight from the hospital to the court in a wheelchair and remained sitting with his eyes closed during the court proceedings. During the hearing, health workers remained engaged in his medical care. There were reports in Russian media that the police tortured the accused during interrogation. In such a situation, injury marks were also seen on the faces of the three suspects who appeared in the court during the hearing. Saidakrami Rachablijoda’s ears were bandaged.
People paying floral tributes at the temporary memorial
It is noteworthy that the terrorist attack in Russia has shocked the entire world. This is the biggest attack in 20 years after 2004. In 2004, a similar attack was carried out at a Beslan school in Russia. National mourning was observed in Russia on Sunday. According to state news agency RIA Novosti, events at cultural institutions were cancelled, flags were flown at half-mast and entertainment and advertising on television were suspended. A large crowd of people gathered to pay floral tributes at a makeshift memorial near the incident site. “People came for a concert, some came to have a good time with their families,” said Andrey Kondakov, a man who came to lay a wreath. I want to express my condolences to all the families affected here and pay tribute to the dead.” Marina Korshunova, who arrived at the memorial, said, ”This is a tragedy that has affected our entire country.” AP
