Could a war between Russia and Ukraine also lead to a third world war? This apprehension is evident from the statement of British PM Boris Johnson in which he said that Russia is preparing for the biggest war since World War II.
By the time the world woke up on Thursday morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin attacked Ukraine, declaring military action on it. Russian troops have now entered the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. There are reports of bombings in many cities including Kiev. Russia is attacking Ukraine with ballistic missiles. So far 50 people have died in this attack. It has come to the fore that 10 civilians have been killed. Ukraine has also spoken of killing 50 Russian soldiers. Thousands of people are in danger of being killed in this war. The eyes of the whole world are on this event.
In view of the situation of another world war in the world, the memories of the second world war have also become fresh. World War II was an armed worldwide conflict that took place between 1939–45. This was the biggest conflict in history which lasted for almost six years. It is estimated that in this war, which lasted from 1 September 1939 to 2 September 1945, not only 7 to 85 crore people died, but hunger, poverty and inflation also increased.
Let us know what caused the Second World War?
There were several main reasons for this war. The foundation of which was laid only after the end of the First World War. The harsh conditions of the Treaty of Versailles, the economic recession, the policy of appeasement, the rise of militarism in Germany and Japan, the failure of the League of Nations, etc. are counted among the main reasons for this. The story of World War II begins with the end of World War I. Germany was defeated in the First World War. After this, the victorious Allies, which included Britain, France, Russia, America and Japan, etc., forced Germany to sign the Treaty of Versailles. Under this treaty, Germany was convicted of the war and imposed a monetary penalty on it. Because of this he had to lose a large part of his land. At the same time, he was banned from capturing other states and the size of his army was also limited.
Germany found this treaty humiliating and due to this, the way was opened for the spread of hyper-nationalism there. Fascist dictatorships were formed in Italy in the form of Benito Mussolini in 1922 and in Germany in the form of Adolf Hitler in 1933.
Hitler started violating the Treaty of Versailles
Hitler openly violated the Treaty of Versailles and began secretly manufacturing Germany’s army and weapons. Germany had promised that it would not attack Czechoslovakia or any other country, but breaking this promise, Germany occupied Czechoslovakia in March 1939 under Hitler’s leadership.
German forces then attacked Poland on 1 September 1939. Seeing this attack on Poland, Britain and France were furious and they proceeded to help him. He launched an attack against Germany two days after Germany invaded Poland. This attack started the second world war. This period of war is known as the war of speech.
War fought between two factions of the world
This war was also fought between two factions like the First World War. On the one hand were the Axis powers – Germany, Italy, Japan, Austria. On the other hand there were the Allies which included Britain, France, Soviet Union, America.
Initially Germany was successful and it conquered France. After the victory over France, Hitler planned to attack Britain. Germany attacked Britain from July to September of 1940. This was the first battle to be fought entirely in the air. However, after some time Germany canceled its intention to invade Britain.
Later the German forces were crushed by the forces of the Soviet Union. America had also joined this war in 1941 with the air attack on America’s Pearl Harbor Navy Base in Japan. A few days after this attack, Germany declared war on America. By now the Allies had learned that the Nazis were mass murdering the Jewish people. America promised to avenge these killings.
How did the war end?
Till now Britain was also waiting to teach Germany a lesson. His forces retaliated on North Africa and Stalingrad. Germany surrendered to the Soviet Union at Stalingrad in February 1943. This was the first major defeat of the German army. On the other hand, German and Italian forces in North Africa were forced to surrender to the Allies.
Hitler committed suicide
Hitler could not tolerate this defeat of Germany and he committed suicide on 30 April 1945. After which Germany surrendered.
On the other hand, the US dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and August 9, 1945. In which millions of people died. Due to this, Japan surrendered on 2 September 1945. In this way, the Second World War reached its conclusion with the dropping of the atomic bomb on Japan.
