Il-112V was the first cargo plane built from scratch since the Soviet era
On Tuesday 17 August, a military plane crashed during a test flight near Moscow. Russia’s United Aircraft-Building Corporation (OAK) said the only experimental model of the IL-112V military cargo plane crashed near the city of Nikolskoye. It is believed that the cause of the plane crash is believed to be a fire in the plane’s engine.
A person who made the video of the entire incident said that flames were visible on the right side of the plane. The fire caused the pilots to lose control and the plane crashed into a wooded area. According to news agency OAK, rescue teams are trying to douse the fire at the scene. However, no information has been received about the crew members yet.

Investigative committee spokeswoman Yelena Markovskaya said investigators had been sent to the scene to investigate the accident. The Il-112V is the first military transport aircraft developed “from scratch” in post-Soviet Russia. Its development began in the early 1990s and continued to face difficulties due to lack of funding. It is noteworthy that the aircraft was expected to be shown at the Moscow International Military and Technical Forum Army 2021. The forum is scheduled to run from 22-28 August.
