An Indian student has died in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. On Tuesday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed this by tweeting. Indian student Naveen Shekharappa, who was killed on the sixth day of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, was a resident of Chalgeri in Haveri, Karnataka. Naveen was studying medicine at Kharkiv National Medical University. According to media reports, when he was going towards the station from his apartment, he came under fire due to Russian attack. Due to which he died. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has also expressed grief over Naveen’s death by tweeting.

On the other hand, Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) Commissioner Manoj Rajan said, “We have confirmed Naveen Shekharappa’s death in Ukraine from the Ministry of External Affairs. He was a resident of Chalgeri in Haveri. He had gone to buy something from a nearby store where he was trapped. Later his friend got a call from a local office that Naveen had passed away.
After the death of Indian student Naveen Shekharappa in Ukraine, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai spoke to his father. Bommai said all efforts would be made to bring Naveen’s body back to India. He said that the officials of the Ministry of External Affairs are talking on this matter.
Significantly, many Indian students are still trapped in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Efforts are on to rescue Indian students trapped in Ukraine. The government is running Operation Ganga to bring back Indians. So far, more than 2 thousand Indians have been brought back under this campaign that started from 26 February.
