S Jaishankar Malaysia Visit: Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with his Malaysian counterpart Mohammed bin Haji Hassan in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. During the meeting, regional and international issues including bilateral relations were discussed between the two leaders. Jaishankar is in Kuala Lumpur on the final and third leg of his three-nation tour of Singapore, Philippines and Malaysia.
First meeting of Hassan and Jaishankar
Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry said in an official statement that Jaishankar met Malaysian Foreign Minister Hassan here and they had “useful and candid” discussions. The discussions included exchange of views on multifaceted dimensions of Malaysia-India bilateral affairs as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest. The two Ministers also discussed exchange of high-level visits and convening of the 7th Joint Commission Meeting of Malaysia and India at a mutually acceptable date. According to the statement, this is the first meeting between Jaishankar and him since Mohammed bin Haji Hassan took charge in December 2023.
The aim is to increase cooperation
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, S Jaishankar will meet Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday and may also meet Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. According to the statement, the objective of Jaishankar’s visit is to enhance cooperation between India and Malaysia and expand understanding of shared challenges and opportunities. Language
