Tokyo: Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met his American counterpart Antony Blinken today on the sidelines of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) ministers’ meeting in Japan. During this, emphasis was laid on strengthening bilateral relations between India and America. Along with this, there was a wide-ranging discussion on regional and global issues. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the meeting of foreign ministers of the Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) countries in Tokyo. America expressed its desire to further strengthen its strategic partnership with India. This may worry China.
After the meeting concluded, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “It was great to meet Foreign Minister Blinken in Tokyo today. Our bilateral agenda is moving forward. There was a wide-ranging discussion on regional and global issues. He further wrote that I am looking forward to attending the meeting of ‘Quad’ Foreign Ministers tomorrow.
What is Quad
Quad is a strong organization of India, Japan, America and Australia. The four countries together established the ‘Quad’ in November 2017, so that a new strategy could be developed to keep the important sea routes in the Indo-Pacific region free from any influence. China claims most of the South China Sea, while the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan also claim this sea area.
