Indian wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha has said that he has given full information to the BCCI officials on the matter related to the journalist. After Saha was dropped from the Indian team, a journalist asked him for an interview and threatened to never interview him if he did not get a reply. Saha shared a screenshot of the conversation with the journalist on Twitter. After this, a committee was formed by the BCCI to investigate the whole matter. Saha has informed the members of this committee about the matter.
The Indian Cricket Board constituted a three-member committee to investigate the entire matter. The three-member committee comprises BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, Board Treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal and Apex Council member Prabtej Singh Bhatia. Saha had said that he would not reveal the name of the journalist, but now he has said that the necessary information related to the case has been given to the authorities.
What did you say?
Talking to reporters, Saha said, “Whatever I know, I have conveyed everything to the committee. I have shared all the information with them. I can’t tell you much right now. BCCI hasn’t said anything outside about the meeting with me.” Have asked to tell, because he himself will answer all the questions. It is still not clear whether Saha has revealed the name of the journalist who misbehaved with him. However, earlier he had said not to do so.
What’s the matter?
The Indian team for the T20 and Test series against Sri Lanka was announced by the BCCI on 19 February. But experienced wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha did not find a place in it. After this, a journalist sent a WhatsApp message to Saha and demanded an interview, to which Saha did not respond and then he was threatened with dire consequences from the journalist. Saha expressed his displeasure by sharing the screenshot of the whole thing on his Twitter handle.
What did the journalist say?
The journalist wrote to Saha, “Have an interview with me, it will be great. If you want to be democratic, I will not pressurize you. He picks one wicketkeeper, which is the best. You try to choose 11 journalists.” Do what I think is not right. Choose the one who can help you the most.”
When he did not get a reply, the journalist called him on WhatsApp, but Saha did not receive the call. The journalist then wrote in a threatening manner, “You didn’t talk to me, I’ll never interview you again. I don’t accept humiliation easily and will remember it. You shouldn’t have done that.” Saha shared the screenshot of the journalist’s message on his Twitter account and informed everyone about the incident.
Senior players supported
After the matter came to light, many veteran players including Harbhajan Singh to Virender Sehwag came in support of Saha. Ravi Shastri demanded an inquiry from the BCCI. He said that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly should intervene in this matter.
Saha will not reveal the name of the journalist
In a conversation with The Indian Express, Saha said that till now no official from the BCCI side has spoken to him. If he is asked to reveal the name of the journalist, he will say that he never intended to end someone’s career. For this reason, he did not reveal the name in his tweet. His aim was that everyone should know that the media is doing such a thing and players should not have to face such things in future.
