New Delhi. Rahul Gandhi’s close aide and Overseas Congress President Sam Pitroda has said that he stands by his statement on inheritance tax. On a question from news agency IANS, Sam Pitroda said that he stands by what he said. Sam Pitroda said that he knows that there are people in India who troll and lie. People are paid to attack and they take it as a package.
On inheritance tax, Sam Pitroda said that he never said that inheritance tax should be implemented in India. Sam Pitroda said that this is what happens in America, which is fine. Sam Pitroda, close to Rahul Gandhi, said that even if he had said that inheritance tax should be implemented in India, there would still be debate, discussion and voting in the Parliament. These things do not get implemented just by his saying. The President of Overseas Congress said that if you want to divert attention from important issues like economy, inflation and unemployment during elections, then go after Sam Pitroda. He called it an organized attack by a group set up to do such work on social media.
Actually, during the Lok Sabha elections, Sam Pitroda had given a statement about inheritance tax. Which was used by BJP leaders including PM Narendra Modi in campaigning against Congress. Modi had even said that if Congress forms the government, it will take away even the mangalsutra of mothers and sisters. After Sam Pitroda’s statement on inheritance tax, he was removed from the post of Congress President, but after the Lok Sabha elections, he was again made the President of Overseas Congress. Sam Pitroda had said that there is a system of inheritance tax in America. If someone has property worth 100 million dollars, then after his death, the children will get only 45 percent of the property and the remaining 55 percent will be taken by the government. He had said that you cannot do this in India. If someone’s property is 10 billion rupees and he is no longer in this world, then his children keep the 10 billion rupees and the public gets nothing. Sam Pitroda had said that there should be debate and discussion on this issue.
