All India Muslim Personal Law Board, religious and national Muslim organizations and leaders of madrasas have issued a joint statement. This statement states that attempts to weaken madrasas will not be tolerated. According to the statement, attempts are being made to weaken madrasas in states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. This statement claims that madrasas are outside the control of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. In such a situation, whatever orders the commission has given to the state governments regarding madrasas are illegal.

This statement also criticised the UP government’s decision to admit students from 8,449 independent madrasas (unrecognised schools) in government schools. The madrasas that have been included in the list of unrecognised schools include many well-known ones. The government has removed non-Muslim students from madrasas and admitted them to government schools. Muslim organisations opposed this too and called it illegal.

Saraswati Vandana being done in madrasa

The statement also alleged that various types of pressure are being exerted on the madrasa operators and if they do not comply, they are being threatened with action. It has been said that Saraswati Vandana is being conducted in madrasas in Madhya Pradesh. Citing Article 30(1) of the Constitution, it has been said that minorities have the fundamental right to establish and run their educational institutions. According to the statement, religious educational institutions provide free, high-quality education along with food and accommodation to millions of children and have been making silent but successful efforts for years to promote education in the educationally backward Muslim community.

Opposition to anti-minority policies

The statement said that the sudden and unilateral action of the Chief Secretary is an unwarranted attempt to disrupt a long-term and stable system, causing educational loss to lakhs of children and putting undue mental and psychological pressure on them. We demand that the administrations of these states stop these illegal, unethical and oppressive actions and endanger the future of children. We are determined to take every possible legal and democratic action to change these anti-minority policies of the state governments.
